Research Assignment

Scott Serfas

The Photographer I have chosen for this assignment is Scott Serfas, his home town is Vancouver BC and his most recent project was the “ Art of Flight.” about 24 years ago the largest snowboard magazine Transworld Snowboarding, asked for him to be a photographer and to this day he still works for Transworld, he has tons of photos published and more than 50 covers with his name. The only Schooling Scott had on photography was just high school schooling, The first camera Scott ever shot with was an old Minolta that he found in his parents closet and now he uses a Canon EOS system and a Lecia M9. What interests me about Scott is that he enjoys shooting the sports and stuff that he does, he does snowboard but his favorite activity to do right now is surf. He is currently sponsored by; f-stop Gear and Endeavor Design INC, The three main activities he shoots are Surfing, Snowboarding, and skateboarding. Instagram is one of the main thing that inspires him to shoot more courageous and intimidating shots.

Here are 7 Images shot by Scott Serfas.

I chose Scott as my photographer because he in from around town and he enjoys taking pictures of the activities I do, Snowboarding photos fascinate me a lot and to see a photographer be sponsored by such big Brands makes it that much cooler. Most of his photos are action shots, it inspires me because I’ve always dreamed of being a snowboarding photographer or a sports photographer.
Here are 6 Of my own photos Inspired by Scott;

I took this shot In Osoyoos BC, I thought it was very architectural and it caught my attention.

All these Photos were taken at Cypress Mountain, these photos were inspired by Scott Serfas’s Snowboarding pictures, I tried to capture the sunset & the sun in each picture to make the picture pop. Snowboarding Is a activity that I enjoy the most and taking pictures of something I love makes taking photos that much easier and more fun.

Friday Photo- What you wore today

October Assignment

My Theme for these reflection pictures are; Strength, Peace, And Love.Throughout the process of taking these pictures I thought about tough patches in my life where all I needed was to feel loved and to have strength. The pictures symbolize my life and how having strength, peace, and people to love and care for you makes everything a whole lot easier.

Taking pictures with the criteria of reflection was very difficult to show what Love, Strength, and peace looks like, but I tried the best i could to involve the words into the pictures below. As you take reflection pictures you start to find very beautiful objects and items that you never knew could look so good. Trying to find a peaceful reflection was hard, the best i could do was to see my own reflection in a peaceful and calming pond.

In the Third picture below I tried to connect peace with the raindrops on the mirror, The raindrops on the mirror to me seem very peaceful and calming, The reflection of my hand with the word strength to me symbolizes that through any collision in life you always have to have the strength to get through it, the car mirror applies to that because you may get into many collisions, but you have to have the strength the fight through the pain.

                                                             September Photos

Bokeh
I made the photo slightly out of focus so you can see
the spotted lights in the foreground.

Bokeh
I focused in on the tree branch so the sky in the
background becomes very out of focus so it turns into
spotted lights in the foreground.

Close Up
I focused in to the locker so that everything
is in focus, to get everything in focus you
have to try and figure out a good distance
to be away from the object.

Close Up
In This photo i only made the screen in focus, to do that
you get a good distance away from the phone and you
focus in on the time, as you do that the whole screen of
the phone will become in focus.

Focus Foreground
In this Photo i focused in on the gate, as you do that
the foreground becomes extremely blurry.

Focus Foreground
As you Focus in on the lock the hallway becomes
slightly blurry, This is focus foreground.

Focus Foreground
Focus foreground is very much just trying to focus in
on the main subject and having the background slightly
blurry, As you can see the bar is in focus the lake is blurry.

Focus Foreground
Focusing on the two phones was very difficult, but as
long as you get the foreground out of focus that is considered
Focus Foreground.
